Mick is the name we chose for this character. We wanted him to have a popular and generic name and for it to not take away from his character. There are no metaphorical meanings to Mick and Steve's names, we just chose them and didn't feel it was important for them to have a symbolic explanation.
About Mick: Mick is an acquaintance of Dawn's. He is more outgoing and owns the situation more than Steve does. He is from Belfast and we have given him a strong Belfast accent. The location is clearly inner city and so it can be assumed that he is from around there. Mick is a compassionate character and he wants to understand what is wrong with Dawn whereas Steve is visibly uncomfortable and wants to leave.
Casting Mick: We wanted someone who had experience in acting and Hugh was the Court Marshall in our school show Oklahoma so we had seen him act before. We felt that Hugh will be able to portray all the emotions that Mick has and he fits the look that we wanted him to have.
